Clinical Handover (ISOBAR)
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare has mandated Clinical Handover as one of the 10 national standards (Standard 6).
This Clinical Handover course has been mapped to Standard 6 with the intention of providing you with an understanding and skills around effective handover techniques with a particular emphasis on the ISOBAR acronym. The course includes videos of real handovers to teach core principles.
Course Content

- practice and summative assessments, and
- a certificate of completion.
Learning Outcomes
This course will provide an understanding of:
- the importance of effective handover, and
- how the use of an acronym (ISOBAR) can assist in achieving effective handover in the context of:
- bedside handover,
- nurse to doctor handover,
- nurse to nurse handover, and
- nurse to group handover.
